Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Newtown Residents Directory receives, why it is used, and which choices are available. The reference has no account system and does not store the government records it describes. Search submissions may go to the third-party provider that powers the search box.

Information You Send Directly

Text entered into a search form, such as a name, phone number, or address, is sent to the third-party provider that supplies the results. Newtown Residents Directory does not keep a copy of those search terms on its own servers. If you email a message, the mailbox receives the content you choose to include and uses it to answer your request.

Ordinary Technical Logs

The hosting service may record an IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps. Those logs are reviewed in aggregate for security, uptime, and page-use trends. Basic analytics or advertising measurement may use cookies or similar technology where enabled by the hosting or search providers.

How the Information Is Used

Information is used to operate the pages, diagnose errors, understand general traffic, and improve the reference. Visitor lists are not sold, and the site does not intentionally build an individual profile from ordinary browsing.

External Services and Portals

The pages link to Newtown, Connecticut, and state records portals, courts, libraries, archives, and third-party search tools. Once a person follows an external link or submits a search there, that provider’s privacy policy controls the submission. Sponsored search results have their own operator and data practices.

Who Can Process Technical Data

Hosting and service providers may handle server logs in order to keep the pages available. Analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above. Information may also be disclosed when a valid legal demand requires it. It is not disclosed for unrelated purposes.

Security and Retention

The pages use an encrypted connection when available, and logs are retained only for the operational or security need that created them. There are no site accounts, passwords, or personal profiles here to maintain or expose.

Visitors Under 18

Newtown Residents Directory is intended for adults and is not directed to children. The operator does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A parent or guardian who believes a minor sent information may use the Contact page to request review and deletion.

Connecticut Privacy Choices

Connecticut’s Data Privacy Act, Public Act 22-15, is codified at Conn. Gen. Stat. §§42-515 through 42-526. Depending on the circumstances, a covered controller may have to support access, correction, deletion, portability, and opt-out requests, with an appeal process. Newtown Residents Directory keeps little personal data, so a request normally means checking the contact mailbox and relevant logs. Use the Contact page to ask.

The Connecticut Attorney General explains the Act and its universal opt-out signal rules. The Act’s government and public-record exemptions matter here: a public deed, court file, voter record, or Town Clerk record remains under the originating custodian’s control. A request to this private reference cannot erase a record held by Newtown or another Connecticut agency. Corrections and removal questions about those records must go to the office that created or maintains them.

Changes to This Policy

A revised policy will be posted on this page with its new wording. Continuing to use the reference after an update indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
